Karva Chauth is a one-day festival celebrated by Hindu on the fourth day of the waning moon after Purnima ( full moon) in the month of Kartika. dates differ according to the gregorian calendar which is tabular, not based according to constellations. Hindu festivals are based on the panchang calendar which accounts for all astronomical positions, especially the position of the moon is used to calculate this. women especially in Northern India, in which married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands.[1][2][3] The fast is traditionally celebrated in the states of Rajasthan, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Atla Tadde in Andhra Pradesh[4].[1][5][6][7] The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon, in the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Kartik. Sometimes, unmarried women join the fast for their fiancés or desired husbands.[8]
